2016-2022 TOYOTA TACOMA RIGHT FOR POWER SLIDER ONLY SLIDING REAR WINDOW BACK GLASS
When I broke my 2017 Tacoma Passenger side rear glass (Power sliding Window) I was at a loss on how to proceed. I did the requisite sulking and hindsight spiral. Then I got busy finding a solution. I contacted various Repair locations (Toyota and Auto glass business). For a $156.00 (window patch plus polyurethane/primer) I was able to avoid paying $1000.00 for a total back glass replacement + Pro installation. The tutorial video was helpful. I would add the following to the finer points of performance to the tutorial: 1 Broken glass removal tips--Drape protective cloth to catch glass and old poly fragments. Use a hot gun to soften old urethane. For delicate urethane removal in the corners and near adjacent glass use a Dremel tool with rotary disc and a 1" wide, grinder sharpened joint tool/blade. 2 Discuss how much old urethane needs to be removed before applying new primer+urethane. I was under the impression remove down to the factory surface. 3 Elaborate on heating the urethane to 140 to improve flow and under what environment conditions to apply new primer+urethane. Elaborate on where specifically to lay the new urethane. 4 After placing the patch into position I put painters tape along the factory gasket and glass. In the glass/gasket joint I put a thin bead of urethane. With a wet rag I pressed the bead uniformly into the joint. Excess trimmed away by razor blade. This improved the water resistant seal and made the patch overall look near factory as far as cosmetic appearance. Overall, thank you for having this niche business. Removal and prep was a challenge. But the tutorial and glass patch resulted in success and significant cost savings.
